Debt reduction is not necessary right now. Most of our debt is due to the Bush tax cuts and two unnecessary wars. If we raised taxes back to pre-Bush rates and invested in infrastructure to get the middle class earning (and spending) again, the debt would slide back down just as it did after World War II.
